The Pacific Division is full of great duos. But obviously McDavid and Draisaitl is the best. It's probably the best in the league. Of course, the Oilers are so terribly run that they only employed this duo for about half the time last year, out of some misguided idiocy about spreading out the talent. It's worth mentioning Gaudreau and Monahan.

This is got to be the biggest gimme ever.

The best player in the world by a country mile, and whoever ... I mean even if they put Lucic as the other forward ... they'd still lap the field...

so tanner takes the easy/popular choice. But can’t leave it at that. Has to mention two defenseman when we’re talking about forwards. Gotta get hits somehow I suppose.

It's just a harmless mention...not nearly as bad as calling Matthews and Nylander the best duo in the Atlantic...

I wish you guys would take some chances, most of you go on last year. As we find in the NHL some teams just play no where near expectations while other just click same with players.

At least Tanner takes risk most of the time. While sometime it is just out there, but Bravo to at least taking risk and making reading enjoyable. Tanner... Doughty is gonna have a BIG year. (I know you will hate that)

You've got to be kidding me ... He plays on the Oilers... aka as your local beer league squad.

It's a miracle he's been able to drag them to respectability by himself. On any competent team he'd be a 200 pt player ..

While I recognize your response is to someone else's extreme statement, you're comparing one duo's best year together (by a mile) to another's worst one together. Over the last three years, the numbers are as follows (included their team rel results as just a bit of imperfect context):

McDrai
2016-17: 59.42% (+6.68 rel)
2017-18: 57.41% (+10.5 rel)
2018-19: 56.44% (+16.06 rel)
Combined: 57.59% (+10.69 rel)

Guentsby
2016-17: 56.25% (-4.78 rel)
2017-18: 42.68% (-5.75 rel)
2018-19: 66.67% (+17.15 rel)
Combined: 58.73% (+7.15 rel)

Honestly, some surprising numbers from your duo that I didn't expect. It's certainly impressive how much their season last year swayed the results; a brilliant season, for sure! However, the McDuo has been pretty consistent in their results since they teamed up while the team around them has gotten worse. It wouldn't be fair of me to neglect the fact that these numbers include Guentzel's rookie and sophomore seasons so that could be why they only "took off" this past year.

From raw results, it's certainly fair to say that your duo had the better year last year but, if we're projecting forward into next year, I think it's fair to say the McDuo has the more trustworthy/predictable results. If Guentsby can reproduce their results from last year though, then the discussion gets interesting.

Best forward duo in the Pacific Division?

if you're ever watching a Sharks game and Karlsson and Burns get on the ice at the same time, it's fun to see.-JT

I don't put any credence in team relative %, a bad team with great players have higher percentages, just because they have bad players, that he doesn't play with, it just doesn't do anything for me.

But to your argument, I would say yes, those are his 1st and 2nd season and they didn't play together the whole season. This most recent, is the only time they played together for a full season. also I would throw on SV% and CF% because Crosby-G still played very well in 17-18, just extremely low PDO.

CF% - SH % - SV%

CROSBY-G
16-17 = 54.02 - 8.87 - 91.86
17-18 = 56.37 - 5.37 - 90.91
18-19 = 55.07 - 10.65 - 93.12

MCD-Drais
16-17 = 53.85 - 10.62 - 90.91
17-18 =54.38 - 9.54 - 90.98
18-19 = 50.74 - 13.01 - 90.27

I would say the closer later (60ish %)of the crosby and G is what we can expect next year, maybe a few more GA becasue of extremely high SV%. And I would expect the MCD DRais line to perform btter. Though these stats would scare me, because 13.01% SH is crazy high, and the CF% is much lower than youd like to see for 2 of the best players in the world.

And I really just think its crazy for so many to just blindly say McD is the best in the world. Because whether you think one way or the other, there is still a conversation to be had. Crosby absolutely has not just given away the title.
